Nestled in the heart of Hobart’s city centre along Macquarie Street, this café offers a calm yet vibrant spot to enjoy specialty coffee and brunch. The atmosphere strikes a balance between cosy and trendy, making it a comfortable choice for solo diners quietly working on a laptop, groups catching up, or families with kids stopping by for a relaxed meal. On a typical visit, you’ll find a busy but inviting space filled with the hum of friendly chatter and the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee.
People often come here drawn by the thoughtful coffee selection, ranging from lattes and cappuccinos to more adventurous cold drinks like turmeric and ginger shots or refreshing fruit and vegetable juices. Brunch options lean into hearty, well-presented dishes such as their Reuben sandwich and halloumi stack, alongside more traditional offerings like eggs served on house-baked sourdough and creative takes on breakfast classics. The menu caters to a variety of dietary preferences, with vegan and vegetarian choices clearly available, as well as some healthier options.
The spot feels casual yet carefully curated, making it easy to settle in whether you’re after a quick bite, a leisurely brunch, or simply a good coffee break. It’s well suited to locals who appreciate quality and detail in both their food and drink, as well as visitors exploring the city who want a welcoming space that’s a little removed from the usual tourist crowds. With kerbside pickup and delivery options, it’s also convenient for those on the go, and accessibility is thoughtfully considered with a wheelchair-accessible entrance.

"A Simple poached eggs on sour dough for breakfast, but executed beautifully!"
5 Lobby Eatery is an easy-to-find treat on Macquarie Street, with easily the most visually appealing barista work I’ve ever seen and our hot drinks were so good we had to order round 2. I ordered the pain perde (I’m not sure how to spell it sorry) and my plate left me feeling completely satisfied. I don’t usually like meringue but I thought it was perfect. Not to mention the outstanding plating! However, one thing I would suggest is possibly a little more variety on your breakfast menu. Other than that, I loved it here and will be coming back as well as telling my friends about Lobby Eatery.
5 I find myself really struggling with this review. I’ve given it 5 stars because it is obviously popular with the locals and meets their needs. It is really crowded and bustling as I write this and every patron looks really happy. So yes, successful. For me, I thought the coffee was superb. The food, although very well cooked and presented, failed to impress me. It was as if the place was trying too hard to be fancy. I mean, I adore the simple egg and bacon roll. Here they smother it in garlic aioli and tomato sauce. I know many places add tomato sauce (I always ask for it to be excluded) but two sauces! Surely that smothers the simple beauty of eggs and bacon. But that’s me. We had poached eggs (gorgeous) on sourdough where the crust was so hard it made eating it a challenge. Lovely flavours, but irritating to eat. Any, still 5 stars. Super service. But if your tastes run to the basics like me, just be aware.
5 Amazing amazing amazing! Best brunch/breakfast ever! Impeccable preparation of brunch dishes, with possibly the best Croque Monsieur we have ever tried. If you get to the city centre for the first time and have no clue where to have a coffee day-starter, this place will kick things off the right way! A total value for money!
5 The very first place my parents and I stopped while visiting Hobart for the first time and we couldn’t have picked a better one. Based on the reviews we decided to stop for breakfast and is easy to understand why this place has such a good rating. Coffees were spot on, I had the special of the day for food which was cracker. The reuben and eggs ben were amazing too plus the service was worth it a 20% tip. Will definitely stop by every time in Hobart!
5 Found this gem through social media while visiting Hobart and it sure impressed us. Loved everything and we highly recommend to give it a try!! the highlight was the notes companying our coffees describing the beans.
5 The Mont Blanc here was the best I’ve had (and I’m from Melbourne). After letting it sit, the cream had slightly incorporated into the cold brew and it was such a delightful taste. I also ordered the eggs Benedict, and I must say this was incredible. It’s probably one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. Simple but sophisticated, the house made bread definitely stood out, the freshness and crunch right through so that solid sourdough taste. The pancetta was unbelievable, so was the miso hollandaise which was unique and beautifully done. All in all 5/5.
5 We ordered the Reuben and Chicken Schnitzel Sandwiches, 10/10! It wasthe best sandwiches we’ve ever had. We woud definitely be back when we return to Tassie. Great coffee and friendly staff as well. Amazing.
5 Open for breakfast on Saturdays, from 08:00 am. I called around 09:30, only a few empty tables. One waitress adequately covering the diners, welcoming and efficient. After perusing the menu I started with a Golden Elixir Smoothie, followed by Mats Omelette and finished with a Black Fields Latte. All very good. The chef/cook was kept busy, as was the barista during the time I was there. A clean and pleasant cafe for singles, pairs or small groups, surprisingly quiet, so easy to converse. Very happy with this find, very convenient for Real Tennis players.
The Reuben Sandwich, Halloumi Stack, and Croque Monsieur are popular food choices, while their latte, cappuccino, and flat white are highly recommended.
It suits both quick coffee stops and relaxed brunches, offering everything from quick bites to hearty breakfast and lunch options.
